Ericka story
When I came to the center, I was terribly confused and sad because I did not plan to be pregnant. My husband and I did not have the money to bring another child into our family. I work in fitness and this unplanned pregnancy was going to change my plans, my body, and my work. My husband was also confused and concerned about how he was going to be able to provide for us. We already had two daughters and were struggling already. The pregnancy test was positive. My heart sank; I felt scared and alone at that moment. In the middle of this confusion, I was embraced in such a warm way by a CPC volunteer that even though I was doubting and struggling to understand what was happening, during the conversation I was able to see that God’s plans are perfect. I felt supported and, in a way, loved. The Pregnancy Center feels like a family! They were always happy to help and provide us guidance and education to be the best version of ourselves and discover our hidden potential.
We had another girl, and she has changed our lives! She is so energetic and happy, and we can’t imagine our lives without her! My husband and I know that without the support the center provided, we might not have been able to embrace this pregnancy. The fact that the Center is faith-based has been a real blessing to our family. We are on our path to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony and our daughters are witnessing a better example of what a family should be. The Support Group and the Parenting Classes have been very helpful; I felt supported during and after my pregnancy, and I learned so much about motherhood and God’s plan for me.
Today, I’m a volunteer at the Pregnancy Center helping to lead the Hispanic Support Group and I am taking classes at Howard Community College. The impact that the Pregnancy Center and its volunteers have had helped me to discover my God-given talents and overcome my fears of being able to help others. I’m very thankful to God and to all the people who support the Pregnancy Center.
